Large Ensembles

 MYSP is comprised of 5 orchestras and 2 wind bands that perform four times each season.

Kyle Dickson, Youth Symphony Conductor
Full orchestra: strings, winds, brass, percussion, harp 

  • Advanced experience level

  • Performs standard orchestral repertoire

  • Ages 13-18*

  • Four concerts per season, including a possible Side-by-Side concert or rehearsal with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.

  • Annual Concerto Competition - winners featured as soloists on the winter concert

  • Rehearses Sundays at the University of Memphis, 5:30-8pm, September-May

 

Dr. Selim Giray, Repertory Orchestra Conductor

Full orchestra: strings, winds, brass, percussion, harp

  • Performs standard string orchestra repertoire and reductions of orchestral literature

  • Ages 12-18*

  • Five concerts per season

  • Rehearses Sunday at the University of Memphis, 3-5pm, September-May

 

Chelsea Subick, Conductor
All string instruments — violin, viola, cello, bass

  • Training group for String Orchestra

  • Intermediate experience level

  • Performs upper middle school level orchestral repertoire

  • Ages 10-16 approximately

  • Five concerts per season

  • Rehearses Sundays at the University of Memphis, 1:15-2:30pm, September-May

Kristi Harrington, Conductor
All string instruments — violin, viola, cello, bass

  • Training group for other string ensembles

  • Intermediate experience level

  • Performs upper middle school level orchestral repertoire

  • Ages 8-14 approximately

  • Five concerts per season

  • Rehearses Sundays, 1:30-2:45pm September-May

Full wind ensemble:  Woodwind, Brass & Percussion instruments

  • Advanced experience level: Grades 8+

  • 2 concerts per season

  • Rehearsals are Sundays, 3-5pm, January-May

Woodwind, Brass & Percussion instruments

  • Beginner-Intermediate experience level: Grades 7+ with at least 2 years’ experience

  • 3 concerts in fall, 2 concerts in spring

  • Rehearsals are Sundays at the University of Memphis, 1-2:30pm, September-May
